Ferry Services to Isla Mujeres

There are many convenient ferry options for travelling to Isla Mujeres from Cancun. Prices range from around $1.60 for a one-way excursion to $15 for a round-trip ticket on the more expensive ferries. Speedy cruisers like the Ultramar, the Caribbean Lady, or the Miss Valentina are air-conditioned vessels that depart every half hour from Puerto Juarez beginning at 5:30 am through to 8:30 pm. If you are staying on Isla Mujeres, you can catch the evening ferry at 11:30 pm after a festive night in Cancun. These ferry excursions typically take about twenty minutes to cross Mujeres Bay.

The most inexpensive option is the open-air ferries, which only cost around $1.60, but often take around forty-five minutes to make the crossing. These trips run from five o'clock in the morning until six o'clock in the evening. This voyage allows you to take the time to appreciate the tropical breezes, the revitalizing sunshine, and the beautiful seascape between the mainland and Isla Mujeres.

There are also premium ferries available at the Playa Caracol Xcaret offices as well as El Embarcadero Marina in the Hotel Zone. These jaunts typically take about thirty minutes and cost between ten and fifteen dollars for a round-trip ticket.

You do not need a car to get around the small island of Isla Mujeres, but if you want to bring a car, you can catch the ferry at Punta Sam which is located just north of Puerto Juarez. The forty-five minute trip cost a dollar fifty per passenger plus eighteen to twenty-six dollars per automobile, depending on the size of your vehicle.

Generally, you do not need to bring a vehicle to such a modest-sized island. Visitors can rent bicycles, scooters, or golf carts to travel around the island. Taxis are also readily available with fares ranging from two dollars for a short trip to a fifteen-dollars-per-hour island tour. Please note that the listed prices are based on currently established rates and subject to change. Also, ferry schedules may possibly be altered because of weather conditions.
