Getting Around Isla Mujeres

Since the island is only one mile wide by five miles long, getting around Isla Mujeres is fairly cheap and easy. The most convenient method of travelling around the island is via taxi. Cabs are plentiful and easy to find on the island. Taxi drivers on Isla Mujeres charge per trip rather than per person (please note that the cab drivers may pick up other passengers along the way if there is room in the vehicle. Most one way trip cost between two and five dollars. You can ask for a tour of the island for fifteen dollars per hour. You may save a little money by flagging down a cab on the street rather than finding a taxi at the stand beside the ferry dock.

Buses are a very inexpensive way to travel around downtown and to Hacienda Mundaca. You can simply hail a passing bus from the road and it will stop and pick you up. Because the weather is typically so beautiful in this region and the island is relatively small, transportation options like bicycles, golf carts, or scooters are suitable for touring Isla Mujeres. You can find rental establishments near the downtown docks. Scooters and all-terrain golf carts can be rented by the hour, the day, or the week and are relatively inexpensive. You can rent a scooter for twenty-four hours for around twenty U.S. dollars. Vendors will even deliver scooters and golf carts to your hotel.
